What is CrossFit Kids?
CrossFit Kids is not just a scaled-down version of CrossFit but absolutely CrossFit, geared and designed for a specific population and the specific developmental needs of that population. The emphasis is to make children faster, stronger, fitter, and more capable, whilst doing it in a fun way, so that they want to do it. In short, CrossFit Kids is ‘broad, inclusive, general fitness wrapped up in FUN’.
CrossFit Kids is the principal strength and conditioning program for many young athletes and the primary P.E. programme for many schools. It is used by athletic teams, martial arts schools and many parents that want their kids to grow up healthy, strong and have a life long love of working out, thus avoiding the common problems associated with childhood inactivity and obesity.
The CrossFit Kids programme delivers fitness that is - by design - broad, general and inclusive. It is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. It uses the same routines for four year olds as it does for more experienced teenage athletes by scaling load and intensity.
CrossFit Kids is a minimalist programme. It requires little or no equipment and therefore can be used across broad socio-economic groups providing an easily accessible, cost-free resource for elite physical fitness to everyone.
Overall, the CrossFit Kids programme will make kids
faster, stronger, more capable and fitter than the
kids around them in a fun way.

CrossFit Kids at CrossFit 3D
CrossFit 3D Kids Pre-school class
This class is aimed at 3-5 year-olds. In order to do this class, children need to be able to understand and follow directions. The aim of the classes is to introduce children to functional training and teach the fundamental movements of CrossFit whilst wrapping up this learning in a fun environment. Lots of games, short workouts and fun initiatives help to develop movement, proprioception and co-ordination as well as cognitive function, a key factor for learning both physically and mentally. The sessions last 20 minutes, short enough for any small child to stay engaged and interested, but long enough for them to learn essential skills and embed the lifelong definitions of health and fitness. Each session focuses on a particular element of a CrossFit movement.
CrossFit 3D Kids
The main CrossFit 3D Kids class is aimed at 6-12 year olds and again is heavily biased towards making working out fun. Classes centre around the 10 fundamentals of CrossFit (accuracy, power, stamina, balance, co-ordination, cardio-respiratory endurance, strength, agility and speed) whilst also introducing a number of key movements (air squat, press, front squat, thruster, deadlift, sumo-deadlift high pull, pull ups). These movements are used as workout ‘themes’ and feature heavily through the sessions and on a rotational basis to ensure they become familiar and memorable. Team games, obstacle courses and fun workouts help to teach children the benefits of exercise and also helps to develop and hone other essential life skills and improve self-perception.
CrossFit 3D Teens
The transition from the kids programme to the adult programme is an integral part of the CrossFit 3D teens class. Generally aimed at teenagers and some younger children who move particularly well (graduating from the CrossFit 3D Kids programme), this class focuses on working in harmony with the many physical changes that the teenage years bring whilst still allowing a fun and functional training scheme. The mechanics of the human body during these years can change from one week to the next; assessing and working with these changes to allow teenagers to develop effectively physically and mentally is key. This class also teaches teenagers the value of working hard to achieve a goal and is transferable to schoolwork and daily challenges. Teenagers attending the classes are also welcome to bring in schoolwork for study groups to show that the same method of chipping away to finish a workout can be directly applied to a particular piece of homework, with support from other like-minded teenagers.
