CrossFit Community Help Danny Watson Smash Fundraising Target
A week ago Danny Watson undertook a challenge most would not consider, trying to perform over 7000 pull ups in 24 hours - a World Record. Danny used the World Record attempt to raise money for The Cleft Lip and Palate Association (CLAPA). His fundraising target, almost as ambitious as his World Record reps, was £10,000. Danny reached a total of 4,907 reps and whilst short of the World Record still an awe inspiring number of pull ups. Danny effectively had two targets to reach, though he didn't reach the 1st, he absolutely smashed the 2nd. Danny beat his fundraising target by 155%!
The Cleft Lip and Palate Association (CLAPA) is the only national charity supporting people and families affected by cleft lip and/or palate in the UK. The charity receives no statutory funding from government, they are wholly reliant on fundraising activities. Danny Watson’s attempt to break the World Record number of pull ups in 24 hours has raised a significant amount of money.
“It looks as if Danny Watson will have raised over £15,500 for CLAPA, way above average for normal fundraising donations and it will make a massive impact on what we are able to achieve this year."
"However, what is immeasurable is the awareness Danny has raised for CLAPA. The support both at the gym and on social media has been mind-blowing. I am humbled by the reaction from the CrossFit community and love and support given to Danny.” Mike Hey, CLAPA
CLAPA offers support for parents and carers of cleft babies. New parents are often unaware of the condition and they may find the diagnosis shocking or distressing, especially when confronted with the fact that their child’s first year of life will include surgery. On a practical level, a cleft palate and occasionally a cleft lip can prevent a baby from forming a vacuum with their mouth, meaning they cannot suckle successfully from a breast or bottle. In addition to support and advice CLAPA provide specialist feeding bottles to allow parents to feed their babies, often meaning they can return home with their newborn. The money Danny raised will be able to buy over 650 new feeding packs
In addition, Danny Watson’s fundraising could also fund 2 residential weekends for children and young people (6-18 year olds) with a cleft. These weekends provide the youngsters the opportunity to meet others with the same condition in a fun and safe environment. Outdoor activities and team challenges can boost confidence, lessen feelings of isolation and increase self-esteem.

In memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, N.Y., who was killed in Afghanistan June 28th, 2005.
This workout was one of Mike's favorites and he'd named it "Body Armor". From here on it will be referred to as "Murph" in honor of the focused warrior and great American who wanted nothing more in life than to serve this great country and the beautiful people who make it what it is.
